Mishka, Doula, Fredericksburg, Culpeper

Hello,

I’m Mishka

My love for supporting birthing women began with my own journey to motherhood. Sixteen years ago I discovered “my thing,” and I’ve been a student of birth ever since.

I’ve been working with and serving new families since 2013, when I certified as a Child Birth Educator and then Breastfeeding Peer Counselor.

Over the years, I have continued my education on special topics such as postpartum mood disorders, postpartum support, birth trauma, out of hospital birth support and birth assisting.  I have trained with various organizations, such as: DONA, ICEA, Still Birth Day, Childbirth International and Breastfeeding USA.  I’ve also completed several online and in-person workshops and trainings, including Neonatal Resuscitation.

I am currently honored to serve our local families as a Birth Doula, Childbirth Educator and Birth Assistant.

It is not only that we want to bring about an easy labor, without risking injury to the mother or the child; we must go further. We must understand that childbirth is fundamentally a spiritual, as well as a physical, achievement. The birth of a child is the ultimate perfection of human love.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is a doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a mother before, during, and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible. Unlike health care providers, doulas do no perform any clinical tasks.

Does a doula replace a partner’s role?

Partners and doulas fill very different roles during labor. Your partner is the expert on you, while your doula‘s expertise is birth. Birth often comes with unexpected twists and turns that can leave a partner overwhelmed and unsure exactly how to support you. A doula helps not only the birthing mother, but is also able to guide her partner in how best to support her during this special time.

When should I hire a doula?

Most women hire a doula during the second trimester, but there is no right, or wrong time to take this step. Waiting too long might mean that the doula you were hoping for is no longer available for your birth though.
